TIME TO ENJOY THE GOOD LIFE! K9 “HELDEN” (ID#KS13171) began his service in May 2013 and retired on May 2020. K9 “HELDEN” served honorably in the inland empire area of California with his dad! The team was notorious for being in the right place at the right time which several “bad guys” can attest to! Enjoy the retirement life K9 “HELDEN”, it’s well deserved!!!

​After 20 years as a CHP Officer I was honored to be assigned K9 Bear in 2011. Bear was a Belgian Malinois.  During Bear's career he located numerous hiding suspects and narcotics. Bears biggest narcotics find was 25 lbs. of meth hidden in a compartment in the engine of a car.  Bear was a very social dog making him a favorite at school assemblies as well as working the Rotary circuit.  Bear and I retired in Dec 2016.  In retirement Bear enjoyed going on road trips with me and sleeping on the bed. Bear is now in heaven and romping with all of his K-9 buddies.

Nero began his career with the Department and was assigned to Officer Michael Goesch, ID 18004, on November 01, 2013. Together they performed their duties with the highest level of dedication and expertise.

During his career, Nero completed over 500 operational bomb/explosives search missions. These missions
included supporting the Federal Bureau of Investigation, United States Secret Service, and numerous allied agencies.

Nero retired with distinction on November 15, 2021. Nero passed away on July 13, 2022, with Officer Goesch by his side,
after a lengthy battle with medical issues. Nero will be remembered for his faithful service, great demeanor, and his undying devotion to Officer Goesch. He will be dearly missed by Officer Goesch, Officer Goesch’s family, and his
extended CPS family.

CHP Southern Division, and all Divisions would like to remember one of our retired K9's, Flash, who passed away last week.  Flash, a Belgian Malinois, graduated from the CHP Academy's K-9 training on September 04, 2009, as a dual purpose Narcotic/Patrol K-9 and was partnered with handler Officer R. Cheever.  Flash was responsible for locating 40 subjects who were evading apprehension, being involved in the arrest of 675 subjects, conducted approximately 1,200 searches with 725 finds, and was responsible for the seizure of 6,782 lbs. of Marijuana, 202 lbs. of Heroin, 1,773 lbs. of Methamphetamine, 2,600 lbs. of Cocaine, and $18,676,815 in illicit U.S. currency.  Flash also participated in 100s of school and public relation educational demonstrations.  #SouthernDivisionSSC #CHP #FurHeroes #K9 #Canine #Dogs #Safety #Service #Security #LosAngeles

​K9 “DUTCH”, ID# KM09141, began his honorable service with the department on 12/01/2009 and retired 10/01/2017. He passed away on 08/05/2020 with his dad and family by his side. K9 “DUTCH” spent his amazing career with his dad Bobby patrolling the very southern part of California. K9 “DUTCH” was well known and respected in the K9 world and the communities he served. Although small in stature, K9 “DUTCH” packed a huge punch and possessed an even bigger heart!!! LOYAL AND FAITHFUL until the end. Rest easy K9 “DUTCH”, we have it from here.

We honor K9 “TEZZ”, AKA “BACON”, ID#KM16199. K9 “TEZZ” passed away on 06/11/2020 after serving in the greater Los Angeles area with his dad. K9 “TEZZ” started his service 11/10/2016 and hit the ground running! K9 “TEZZ” was responsible for numerous POTUS and VPOTUS sweeps during his career as well as safeguarding the Rose Bowl. Though small in stature, K9 “TEZZ” made up for it in his CRAZY DRIVE!!! Thanks for your service buddy. Rest easy, we have it from here.

K9 “LAIKA” started her service on 10/14/2011 and worked with her dad in the central part of California until her retirement 04/2018. K9 “LAIKA” passed away from cancer on 05/12/2020. K9 “LAIKA” loved her job and it showed, the numerous awards this team received and the seizures they made are proof of that! She will be dearly missed by her family and the K9 community. On 05/06/2020 we had to say goodbye to K9 “EDO”, ID# KM18211, as he crossed the rainbow bridge. K9 “EDO” began his career with us on 06/30/2018 and honorably served those in the greater Sacramento / Stockton Area with his dad, Greg. Even though it was just a short 2 years, K9 “EDO” made a HUGE difference in fighting the evils of this world. He will be missed throughout the K9 community. Rest easy K9 “EDO”, we have it from here.

K9 “ANDI” served honorably from 08/19/2016 to 11/21/2019. K9 “ANDI” was paired with his human partner Officer Barton. The two were responsible for patrolling the greater Sacramento area. K9 “ANDI”, or “ANDREW” as he was sometimes called, definitely LOVED his job and his human. There are many stories of their shenanigans that mostly end in uncontrollable laughter. Sadly, K9 “ANDI” passed away from complications sustained during a surgery as the result of an on-duty injury. K9 “ANDI” will be missed by all. Rest easy “ANDI”, we have it from here.

K9 FRANKY started with the department in February of 2011 and during his honorable service K9 FRANKY served in the Inland Empire area. K9 FRANKY was responsible for seizing 17 million dollars (YES THAT’S $17 MILLION!), 1400 lbs of cocaine, 140 lbs of heroin, and 1500 lbs of methamphetamine. You will be missed K9 FRANKY.
